life's simple pleasures...

Sometimes you've just got to love taking in the little things in life. You know what I mean- the simple stuff that puts a smile on your face.

Pay attention!

These things are easy to miss if you're running around with your head stuck somewhere it shouldn't be, too 'busy' to pay heed to the things that really matter...

Things like (for me, anyway) the simple joy of spending an evening talking to a good friend- no cell phones or computers, no complicated plans- just copious amounts of coffee (or beer), a kitchen table, and good conversation... the way it feels to put newly clean pajamas on your freshly showered body and crawl into a bed made with newly clean sheets... the smell of rain on a breeze blowing through your open window... listening to that song- one of your favorites from days gone by- that you haven't heard in YEARS playing on the radio... watching somebody learn (actually seeing the light brighten in their eyes as understanding dawns)... the sight of a bouquet of your favorite flowers on your kitchen table... a long, hot shower after a long day... watching people go about their days... waking up to the aroma of someone who loves you cooking breakfast for you... getting an email from a long lost friend.

My current favorite is quietly watching the sunrise from my little balcony whilst sipping on a hot cup of coffee, huddled in a warm sweater and slippers. Morning meditation, really. Glorious.

What's your favorite "little thing"?

mmm... my favourite little thing is changing into comfy clothes, wrapping myself in a blanket or two, and sipping a cup of something warm, while reading a good book... it's surprising how seldom this scenario takes place...

Ooooooo! That's a good one! I find this even better if it is either raining or snowing outside ;)

I'm convinced that these special little things would be taken for granted if they happened too often, so it's good that they are rarities... that's what I tell myself, anyway ;)

One of my favourite little things is the moment in the morning when you're all of a sudden wide awake but not tired, and warmly esconced in your cocoon of warmth only to realize with excitement that it is a beautiful day shining in, you are in the middle of a good book, it is Saturday morning, you have nowhere to be until much, much later and the day is stretched out in front of you.

Another one of my favourite little things is the the first footstep out of HH when it is still light out, it smells fresh like spring, it is not cold and I am on my way to a key lime pie.

Oh! More!

The feel of a great new shoe. Oh yeah.

- A cold rain in winter -no snow in Mexico :( -

- The smell of a hot Coffee when you're in the woods (sierra) ...

- A fantastic sunrise on the beach with your "chela" (beer).

- Swimmin' in a public pool when is rainin'...

- Drivin' with good music.

- When you don't study for an exam and even that... you score 10 (A+).

- When i go to the fridge to get myself cold... i know it sounds pathetic, but i hate warm weather.

- Walkin' at 3 am alone on the streets of your downtown... noiseless. Just perfect.

- A 3 days weekend.

- 8 taquitos de carnitas a las 2 de la mañana, despues de salir del antro. (8 tacos of meat at 2 am after your club night)

I see everything as a pleassure...

Have a nice day Jenn.

Hi Jenn

Just have to add a few of mine. Being in Clare (Little Brook to be exact) and taking in the nice sights, sounds, and smells of being by the ocean. Especially now, calling Ottawa home, the OCEAN and Nova Scotia are places are I will always hold dear. :)

Wow! You guys are good! I suddenly have an urge to go for a walk in the woods in the rain near the ocean while wrapped in a clean, line-dried sheet, wearing new shoes, eating a piece of (absolutely delicious if I do say so myself) key lime pie and a beef taco, and sipping on a beer at sunrise... do you think it would have the same effect?

Oh, and Therese? The feeling of waking up to a beautiful FREE day is one of my favourites too... it can only be improved by the timely delivery of a steaming cup of java ;)

Hi Jenn,

I just checked the Halifax Herald website, and they have a different "food for thought" each day, thought you may like this one from Tuesday.

I HAVE to add another one to your list... quality girl time. It seems like you should get lots of this (especially when you know such a large group of fantastic and wonderful women), but there is nothing like the feeling of having a really great conversation about chicken periods with an entire group of intelligent and slightly intoxicated women... priceless.

:P
